"Záporožský ataman Kosťa Hordienko spolu s hejtmanem Ivanem Mazepou se spojili se Švédy a bojovali proti Rusku v Severní válce, druhá polovina kozáků zůstala věrná Rusku a Švédy pomohla porazit. Proto byla roku 1709 na rozkaz Petra Velikého jejich sič zlikvidována – záminkou bylo Bulavinovo povstání vedené atamanem donských kozáků Kondratijem Afanasjevičem Bulavinem.[zdroj?] Kozáci ze siče ve velkém množství uprchli na území Krymského chanátu, odkud se vrátili až v roce 1734.
