After the annexation, Japan set out to suppress many traditional Korean customs, including eventually even the Korean language itself.[5][3] Economic policies were implemented primarily for Japanese benefit.[6][7] European-styled transport and communication networks were constructed across the nation in order to extract resources and exploit labor.
