In page Patty Griffin:

"

Griffin was born on March 16, 1964, and is from Old Town, Maine, next to the Penobscot Native American reservation.[1] She is the youngest of seven children in her family. She bought a guitar for $50 at age 16, and initially sang and played with no inclination to become a professional musician. After a six-year marriage that ended in 1994, Griffin began performing in Boston coffee houses and was scouted by A&M Records, which signed her on the strength of her demo tape. When the finished studio recordings were submitted to A&M, company executives thought it was overproduced, so producer Nile Rodgers and the label instead released a stripped-down reworking of her demo recordings as the album Living with Ghosts.[citation needed]
