In 1971, S. Ichtiaque Rasool and Stephen Henry Schneider determined that doubling the atmospheric concentration of CO2 would increase the Earth's temperature by about 0.8°C and an increase by a factor of ten would increase temperature by 2.5°C. Their conclusion was that we could not prevent the coming ice age, no matter how much coal were to be burned.[15] Arrhenius and Ångström were both qualitatively correct, and both quantitatively wrong.[citation needed]
