In page Autoimmune retinopathy:

"

In addition to B cells, T cells also contribute to the autoimmune response in AIR. Cytotoxic T cells, or CD8+ T cells, can directly attack retinal cells expressing antigens that have been recognized as foreign by other immune cells. These T cells are recruited to the retina through the action of pro-inflammatory cytokines, furthering the tissue damage to the retina. Helper T cells (CD4+ T cells) are also involved, aiding in the activation of B cells and cytotoxic T cells, further amplifying the immune response.[citation needed]
