Between 1982 and 1992, he was the President for the Human Rights Portuguese Committee for the Palestinians.[1] He was also a member of the Peace and Cooperation Council for the Anti-Apartheid Movement in Portugal until the end of the Apartheid in the Republic of South Africa and Rhodesia.[1] In 1995, he got involved with "The Engravings Don't Know how to Swim" movement with the archaeologist Mila Simões de Abreu and Isabel do Carmo, which aimed to save the Côa Engravings, which were listed as World Heritage by UNESCO.[citation needed] He is one of the co-founders of the Abril Association along with several former-pintassilguistas (Pintassilgo's supporters).[citation needed]
