In early March 1971, 300 Biharis were killed. This was used by the Pakistan Army as a justification to launch Operation Searchlight against the Bengali nationalist movement.[1] Biharis were massacred in Jessore, Panchabibi[citation needed] and Khulna[2] (where in March 1972, 300 to 1,000 Biharis were killed and their bodies were thrown into a nearby river).[3][4]
