Using a smaller group of cases with fuller records, trustees reported that 83 per cent showed signs of reform. Forty-three former inmates, or 1.67 per cent of all commitments, later entered the Massachusetts State Prison. When boys sent instead to houses of correction were excluded, the figure was reported as 1.25 per cent.[citation needed]
