During her life Ruth was considered the wealthiest woman in the islands.[1][2].[3] Her estate passed to her cousin Bernice Pauahi Bishop,[4] with much of these lands becoming the endowment for Kamehameha Schools. On these lands downtown Honolulu, Hickam Air Force Base, part of Honolulu International Airport, Moana Hotel, Princess Kaʻiulani Hotel, Royal Hawaiian Hotel, among others, were built.[citation needed]
