The football revolution (or soccer revolution; Persian: انقلاب فوتبال, romanized: Enqelâb Futbâl) refers to the events in Iran which began around 1997 in the context of football in that country. The idea of a "football revolution" is that the game itself can be used as a part of the secularization of Iran and frame women's rights movements in the country.[citation needed]
