After the death of her husband in 1932, Mary Sullivan opened an art gallery on East 56th Street in New York City.[1] She later moved her gallery to a two-room space in Lois Shaw's gallery on Park Avenue.[2] The gallery hosted exhibitions of Chaïm Soutine's work, among others, and employed a young Betty Parsons, who acknowledged that Sullivan's business sense and taste made an enduring impression on her.[citation needed]
