Mississippi was the last state to remain entirely dry. In August 1966, 19 of Mississippi's counties voted to legalize alcohol.[a][1][2] Kansas continued to prohibit public bars until 1987.[3] Many states now delegate the authority over alcohol granted to them by this Amendment to their municipalities or counties (or both).[citation needed]
