The college arms are those of Cardinal Wolsey and were granted to him by the College of Arms on 4 August 1525.[1] They are blazoned: Sable, on a cross engrailed argent, between four leopards' faces azure a lion passant gules; on a chief or between two Cornish choughs proper a rose gules barbed vert and seeded or. The lion refers to Leo X who created Wolsey a Cardinal.[2][3] The arms are depicted beneath a red cardinal's galero with fifteen tassels on either side, and sometimes in front of two crossed croziers.[citation needed]
