In 1998, Borders (UK) Ltd. was established as a Borders Group subsidiary and with its Borders and Books etc. After quickly becoming one of the country's leading booksellers, due to the fierce competition in the UK marketplace, a number of the Books etc. stores closed, and Borders (UK) Ltd. was sold in 2007 to a private-equity investor.[citation needed] The chain won numerous awards including Bookselling Chain of the Year 2005 & 2006, Chain Bookselling Company of the Year 2006[1] & 2007,[1] Hachette Children's Retailer of the Year 2007,[2] Magazine Destination Retailer of the Year 2007 and Usborne Children's Bookseller of the Year 2008[3]
