In page Cricklewood:

"

The small settlement at the junction of Cricklewood Lane and the Edgware Road was established by 1294, which by 1321[citation needed] was called Cricklewood. The settlement took its name from a nearby wood, perhaps on Cricklewood Lane, in Hendon. The name of the wood may be a tautology meaning "hill hill wood", with the Common Brittonic word cruc (meaning hill) forming the first element, and the Old English hyll (also meaning hill) the second element.[1]
