In page Indonesian National Revolution:

"

Despite the military defeat suffered by the Republicans and a loss of manpower and weaponry that would severely hamper Republican forces for the rest of the revolution, the battle and defence mounted by the Indonesians galvanised the nation in support of independence and helped garner international attention. For the Dutch, it removed any doubt that the Republic was a well-organised resistance with popular support.[1] It also convinced Britain to lie on the side of neutrality in the revolution,[1] and within a few years, Britain would support the Republican cause in the United Nations.[citation needed] The last British troops left Indonesia in November 1946, but by this time 55,000 Dutch troops had landed in Java.[citation needed]
