He was to remain passionately interested in statistics, becoming a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society in 1943.[2] As President of the Board of Trade, he was the driving force behind the Statistics of Trade Act 1947, which is still the authority governing most economic statistics in Britain. He was instrumental as prime minister in appointing Claus Moser as head of the Central Statistical Office, and was president of the Royal Statistical Society between 1972 and 1973.[citation needed]
