Hephaestus was overjoyed to be married to the goddess of beauty, and forged her beautiful jewelry and a saltire-shaped undergarment (called a strophion) which accentuated her breasts and made her even more irresistible to men.[citation needed] Some modern scholars believe that Aphrodite's unlikely marriage to Hephaestus eventuated after he gave his mother Hera a golden throne that trapped her; he refused to let her go until the gods agreed to grant him Aphrodite's hand in marriage.[9] This narrative may have been included in the now poorly-preserved Homeric Hymn to Dionysus.[10]
