In page Interstate 26:

"

Funding for I-26 in South Carolina was provided by the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956. The first section of I-26 was built in South Carolina between Columbia and Charleston. Construction started in 1957 and ended in 1969 with an 11-mile (18 km) portion opening on September 7, 1960.[1] By late 1960, I-26 was complete from Spartanburg to Columbia, and, in February 1969, I-26's construction from the South Carolina–North Carolina border to Columbia was completed at a cost of $118 million (equivalent to $772 million in 2024[2]).[citation needed]
