As of 2024, associate justices receive a yearly salary of $298,500 and the chief justice is paid $312,200 per year.[1] Once a justice meets age and service requirements, the justice may retire with a pension based on the same formula used for federal employees. As with other federal courts judges, their pension can never be less than their salary at the time of retirement according to the Compensation Clause of Article III of the Constitution.[citation needed]
