Milligan also wrote comedy songs, including "Purple Aeroplane",[citation needed] which was a parody of the Beatles' song "Yellow Submarine". He wrote the lyric to saxophonist/composer Duncan Lamont's "English Folk Song", heard on jazz singer Tina May's 2021 album, 52nd Street (and Other Tales).[7][8] He was the narrator for Lamont's Sherlock Holmes Suite, commissioned by the City of London to commemorate the first appearance of Sherlock Holmes in The Strand magazine.
