The Cold Bay School was the community's public grade school, operated by the Aleutians East Borough School District (AEBSD), until its closure in May 2015. AEBSD's school board voted to close Cold Bay School following the conclusion of the 2014–2015 school year due to a decline in enrollment, which led to the loss of state funding.[1] The school employed one teacher and served between four and nine students in its last years.[citation needed] The loss of the school caused an exodus of the remaining school-aged children until, by 2015, only one was left.[1]
