The Gazette is a biweekly, published in Williamsburg, and was the first newspaper to be published south of the Potomac River, starting in 1736.[citation needed] Its publisher was William Parks, who had similar ventures in Maryland.[2][3] After his death in 1750, Parks's shop foreman William Hunter restarted the paper in 1751.[4]
