In March 2006, it was reported that the then-Labour Government was considering removing the ability of the Lords to delay legislation that arises as a result of manifesto commitments (while the Lords still acted in accordance with a self-imposed restriction, the Salisbury Convention, which this legislation would have merely formalised), and reducing their ability to delay other legislation to a period of 60 days[2] (although a compromise of 6 months has also been suggested).[citation needed] The Labour Government made no attempt to enact such changes before the 2010 general election, which Labour lost.[citation needed]
