The Helsinki Pride was first organized in 1975 and called Freedom Day. It has grown into one of the biggest Nordic Pride events. Between 20,000 and 30,000 people participate in the Pride and its events annually, including a number of international participants from the Baltic countries and Russia.[1] There have been a few incidents over the years, the most serious one being a gas and pepper spray attack in 2010[2] hitting around 30 parade participants, among those children.[3] Three men were later arrested.[citation needed]
