Harrison became a widower after Sophie died in Europe in 1876.[2] After being widowed, Harrison married Margarette (alternatively spelled "Margaret" or "Marguerite") E. Stearns in 1882.[3][2] Stearns was a member of one of Chicago's earliest and most wealthy families,[3] being the daughter of Chicago pioneer Marcus C.
