In the United Kingdom, the Brabazon Committee was formed in 1942 under John Moore-Brabazon, 1st Baron Brabazon of Tara to forecast advances in aviation technology and the air transport needs of the postwar British Empire (in South Asia, Africa, and the Near and Far East) and Commonwealth (Australia, Canada, New Zealand).[1][2] For British use, multi-engine aircraft types were allegedly split between the US for military transport aircraft and the UK for heavy bombers.[citation needed] That such a policy was suggested or implemented have been disputed, at least by Sir Peter Masefield.[3] British aircraft manufacturers were tied up to fulfill military requirements, and had no free capacity to address other matters though the war.[4]
